NEWPORT, Ore. -- A burglary suspect went door-to-door asking people where he could buy methamphetamine just four blocks away from where a homeowner caught him in the act of robbing a house, according to police in this Oregon Coast community.

The investigation started around 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, when a Newport homeowner reported interrupting a male subject burglarizing his home.

The homeowner confronted the suspect, recovered the property and chased the suspect through the neighborhood before calling police.

A half hour later police responded a few blocks away from the burglary to calls reporting a male subject going door-to-door asking residents if they knew where he could purchase methamphetamine.

Police said the man reportedly entered two homes uninvited.

When officers arrived, they interviewed Sean Michael Rieschel, 38, of Depoe Bay, Ore. Officers said Rieschel appeared to be under the influence of both alcohol and controlled substances.

Rieschel matched the description given by the victim in the burglary incident and was identified as the person the victim had chased from his home, police said.

Rieschel was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on suspicion of Burglary I and two counts of Criminal Trespass II.
