Fee Free Weekend at Crater Lake National Park
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsCRATER LAKE, Ore. -- This might be a good weekend to visit Crater Lake National Park during their Fee Free Weekend. The park is waiving entrance fees for visitors on three different Saturdays and Sundays this summer. This weekend, plus July 18-19 and August 15-16, you can get in free. The National Park Service says it wants to reinforce that the national parks are places for everyone to have fun and connect with nature and history. They want to help build a sense of ownership and stewardship toward the parks and environment, even in difficult times. The fee free designation applies only to park entrance fees and does not affect other park fees for camping or hotel rooms. Park officials say there is still a significant amount of snow in the park, especially on the trails, roadsides and the higher elevations. It will take several warm, summer days to melt it away. The park averages about 500 inches of snow each year. The north entrance to the park from Highway 138 is now open. |
