Cancelled meeting means delay in Costco hearing
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Roseburg Planning Commission meeting that was set for Monday night was cancelled, which means the hearing for Costco is being put off until the next meeting in July. Costco wants to ask the city to re-zone property north of the city limits where the company wants to build a new store. Costco officials are trying to secure a location for a 150,000 square foot wholesale-retail store with a gas station just north of the old Perry's Electric building on Northeast Stephens The Douglas County Planning Commission had approved the site, but the decision was appealed by former County Commissioner Joyce Morgan, who is also on the board of the non-profit campus. Morgan agreed not to go ahead with the appeal if Costco would go through the city planning process to annex into the city limits and deal with traffic issues that she is concerned with if they were to locate next to the non-profit campus. The planning commission is now scheduled to have a public hearing to take up the issue on July 20, and they will be taking public input at the meeting. |
