WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. - As part of their a of beautification and safety projects, the city of Winchester Bay unveiled its new "Winchester Creek Pedestrian Bridge and Sidewalk" on Salmon Harbor Drive on Tuesday.

An ongoing project for several years, the marina finally finished their new sidewalk, footbridge, light poles and banners as a new gateway to Salmon Harbor Marina.

The public dedication was Tuesday morning for the official ribbon cutting, as well as the new banners that were placed along the light poles.

According to Harbor Manager Jeff Vander Kley, "The banners that tie into our community, they show Winchester Bay, the lighthouse, fishing, everything we stand for. So it's a really good way to celebrate our area and to improve public safety along the waterway."

Other safety projects around the marina included the recent installation of the Non-Ethanol upland fuel dispenser, that allows folks to access fuel without having to carry it up the wobbly boat ramps.

And finally, the marina just received word last week that funding will be provided for parking improvements, near the East Boat Ramp.

"The State Marine Board just approved a grant for the Salmon Harbor Marina to install paving and drainage for the East Boat Ramp," said Vander Kley. "That represents the third phase of an ongoing project that's been going on for about five years. Very excited about that, finishing it and providing improved access to our boaters for our facility."

The Salmon Harbor Marina will put out bids for contractors in early July and expects to start work in September or October.
