WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. -- Winchester Bay in western Douglas County, as part of it's beautification and safety projects, unveiled it's new Winchester Creek pedestrian bridge and sidewalk on Salmon Harbor Drive Monday.

An ongoing project for several years, the marina finally finished its new sidewalk, footbridge, light pole and banner as a new gateway to Salmon Harbor Marina.

The public dedication was Tuesday morning for the official ribbon cutting as well as the new banners that were placed along the light poles.

"We're looking at this to, the banners that tie into our community, they show Winchester Bay, the lighthouse, fishing, everything we stand for. So, it's a really good way to celebrate our area and to improve public safety along the waterway."

Other safety projects around the marina included the recent installation of the non-ethanol upland fuel dispenser that allows folks to access fuel without having to carry it up the wobbly boat ramps.

And finally, the marina just received word last week that funding will be provided for parking improvements near the east boat ramp.

"The state marine board just approved a grant for the Salmon Harbor Marina to install paving and drainage for the east boat ramp. That represents the third phase of an ongoing project that's been going on for about five years. Very excited about that, finishing it and providing improved access to our boaters for our facility."

The Salmon Harbor Marina will put out bids for contractors in early July and expect to start work in September or October.
