Dr. Howard Feldman, an interventional cardiologist with Mercy Medical Center's Shaw Heart and Vascular Center told members of the Chamber of Commerce today about the new heart center, and how they're working to keep business in Douglas County so people don't have to go to Eugene or Portland.

"Its also a very important service to provide in a community that is configured as our community is, and it keeps resources local here. We were anticipating doing 15 interventions the first month of operations starting about 5 weeks ago. We have done 48 as of yesterday. "

Dr. Feldman says the cardiovascular consultants hired by the hospital want people to know they're here and open for operation 24 hours, 7 days a week.

He also says they're experienced.

Dr. Feldman himself has 30 years experience, and is certified to do a wide variety of interventions.
