Sutherlin to vote on water rates
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsSUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Ballots go out this Friday to voters in Sutherlin to decide on a change in the water rates. The voters will decide if the city should raise the water rates as approved by the city council. The rate adopted by the city council includes a basic water charge based on meter size and uniform consumption charge. If the rate is approved by the voters, all water users will pay the basic charge plus a water consumption charge. The consumption charge adopted by the council is $3.50 per 1,000 gallons of water used. Voters will also vote on another ballot measure that if approved would do away with the required voter approval of certain utility rate raises. Approval of that would give the council full authority to establish utility rates based on water usage without having to have voter approval. The ballots will go out to voters in Sutherlin this Friday, and they will have to be back to the county Election's Office by Tuesday, November 3 at 8:00 p.m. |
