ROSEBURG, Ore. -- County commissioners have approved an agreement with the local Rotary clubs to continue to use River Forks Park for the Festival of Lights.

The contract stipulates that the Parks Division will receive a license fee equal to 20% of the net revenues or $2,900, whichever is greater.

county building and Park Director Jim Dowd told the commissioners, "This item is a license agreement with the Rotary club to allow them to present their Festival of Lights at River Forks Park, their 17th annual event. The public still uses the park as well, but this is such a long period of time that it goes beyond a regular permit, so we're asking that you approve a license to allow them to do their event as they have done in the past. I think it's a wonderful community event and it's well worth it."

The Rotary Clubs started it to bring more tourism to the county.

The commissioners also extended an agreement with the Rotary for use of the storage building at the park where they store their lights and display items.

The Festival of Lights begins each year around Thanksgiving and runs through the new year.
