Mason Colburn, KPIC Student Athlete of the Week
By Katie Boer KPIC NewsDRAIN, Ore. -- In prep football, junior Mason Colburn has put North Douglas on the map. "I worked real hard over the summer at the weight room and everything. We just have a great line this year and a lot of guys that work hard so everything comes together," said Colburn. According to Max Preps, Colburn is number one statewide in all divisions, leading the pack with 1,434 yards rushing. "This year especially, I knew what my role had to be on the team, so I worked really hard especially this summer." Colburn has played football his whole life and his parents have been a catalyst for inspiration, pushing him to strive towards academic excellence and a leader on the field. While he leads the state in yardage, his 3.5 cumulative GPA also leads as an excellent example of his hard work in the classroom. "Academics is very important, my whole life I've been trying to get good grades and doing well in school." Aside from yardage, his goal is to receive a scholarship in-state to play collegiate football. He credits his line to his personal success and believes that their work ethic sets them apart from other teams in the league. "We always come out and work really hard, and we have fun too is the big thing. We're all real close to each other." The warriors have lost only one game and clinched a playoff spot this season. |
