COSTCO still trying to put store in Roseburg

By Dan Bain

COSTCO has a one year agreement with the city of Roseburg to have exclusive rights to investigate the possibility of locating on property across from Lowe's at Aviation and Edenbower Boulevard.

But the Federal Aviation Administration has put that idea on hold because of regulations governing the line of flight from the airport.

City councilor Mel Chaney, the chairman of the Airport Commission told members today the FAA appears to be pretty adamant about denying the building.

"It really controls the airport property that their dollars help to either purchase or improve. And so that's the situation with this segment of the airport so the FAA does have essentiallly a controlling interest in that."

Chaney says it's now up to COSTCO as to whether or not they want to present another plan to the FAA and try to work around it or try to find another location.
