ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Roseburg Fire Department is almost ready to move into their new home at the public safety center, but along with a new facility also comes new transportation.

The Roseburg Fire Department is reaching new heights in firefighting. Last week firefighters were training on their new platform ladder truck.

Division Chief Mike Lane said, "To me this is very exciting, this is a state of the art fire truck that the City of Roseburg now owns."

It's been over a decade in the making, the city has saved almost $850,000 to purchase the new equipment.

"The platform that you see behind me is the only platform ladder truck currently residing in Douglas County, and it can be called at any time from Glendale to Drain. So, not that I wish for somebody to have a fire, but I can't wait to use the thing," said Lane.

It took nine months to spec the truck, the department had to choose every detail from it's on board technology all the way down to the color.

Firefighter Lee Sangberg said, "It's really exciting to show the progress that the city's made. I mean, it is a one of a kind piece of equipment. There's been hundreds of hours that went into it designing it specifically for the city."

Besides being the only platform truck here in Douglas County, what's unique about this fire truck compared to other fire engines is it's unique ability to be able to serve as a rescue operator, and to be able to extend upwards to 100 feet.

Besides it's extension length, the ladder can pivot all the way to 75 degrees.

The new truck is designed mostly for rescue and for fires requiring an elevated water stream, and should be fully operational within the next few weeks.
