Flaggers will be on scene from Nov. 2, 2009, through Feb. 12, 2010. The Oregon Department of Transportation said travelers can expect delays up to 10 minutes during periodic daytime lane closures. The closures allow for work that demands visual clarity in daylight conditions. The Siuslaw River Bridge project is a $5.3 million dollar project to upgrade the draw bridge’s electrical and mechanical elements; seal and restore the operator buildings; repair and protect the bridge columns; paint the bridge spans; and strengthen the bridge deck. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2010. In February 2009,the drawbridge got stuck in the up position as the state opened contractor bids on the planned project tp replace the original mechanical and wiring systems that were installed in the bridge when it was built in 1936. The work is being performed by Hamilton Construction of Springfield, Ore. |
