Man accused of sex abuse has bail lowered
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Douglas County judge has reduced the bail for a Roseburg man charged with dozens of sex crimes against young juveniles. Harvey Steven Cale, 42, is accused of 50 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse, plus charges of Using a Child in Display of Sex, Sodomy and marijuana charges. Prosecutors say Cale originally had bail set for $50,000, but new charges were added and it was increased to $1 million. Judge Ronald Poole reduced it to $100,000 on the new charges and $50,000 on the previous charges. Police say he was caring for small children for someone else when the crimes occurred, and they say there may be 50 or more victims in the case. Another hearing is set for next Monday to set a trial date. |
