Absentee rate dropping back down in Roseburg schools
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- Many of the schools in the Roseburg district are still struggling with high absentees because of the flu, but this week most of the schools are starting to see the number of absent students dropping. Rose Elementary was the highest this week in the roseburg district with 16.3%, falling from almost 21% the week before. Fullerton IV dropped more than 2%. Melrose took a big drop of more than 6%, down to 12.2%. Eastwood and Winchester both dropped about 2% from the previous week. Fremont Middle School jumped into double figures at 10.5%, up from 8.8%. Fir Grove Elementary dropped from over 15% to just under 13%. Hucrest stayed the same at just under 10% and Green nearly doubled from 4.9% to 9.1%. Roseburg High School has dropped back down to a more normal absentee rate at about 6%. Jo Lane remained relatively low, also at 6%. School officials are hopeful the worst is over, but they're also concerned about what will happen with the seasonal flu hits later in the winter. |
