Hundreds show up for flu shots at fairgrounds
By Glen Beeby KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Douglas County Health Department held it's second flu clinic at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Monday. Some people were lined up Monday morning to make sure they would be able to get a shot, and the fairgrounds opened the facility early so people wouldn't have to stand in the rain. Officials say they had about 100 doses left over from the Reedsport clinic, and Roseburg went smoothly. Health Director Dawnelle Marshall said, "People are very respectful of each other, both in line and of the staff, so no complaints. There is just a press of people because there are a lot of people who will be coming through this afternoon." Marshall says one of the biggest problems they have encountered are people who do not fit the initial priority group showing up to receive shots. "We are targeting just the priority groups for today because of the limited quantity of vaccine, and once we have saturated those priority groups we will then expand outside of those priority groups." People who would fit the initial priority group include health care workers, people under 65 with medical conditions and everyone six months to 24 years old. To see if you qualify for the shot you can contact the Douglas County Health Center or visit their Web site. |
