Pursuit takes officer from Winston to Melrose, suspect on the loose

WINSTON, Ore. -- Police are still looking for a a man who eluded them in a high speed chase Saturday morning.

A Winston officer said he tried to stop a vehicle that had the wrong plates and the car sped off on Lookingglass Road and into the Melrose area before it crashed.

The driver ran into the woods and police searched the area but the suspect was not found.

Police say the vehicle, a 1995 Nissan Altima, was stolen out of Eugene about a month ago.

During the chase, a Douglas County Sheriff's patrol vehicle collided with a private car at the intersection of Douglas Blvd. and Abraham Ave.

The driver of the car, Kimberly Allen, 52, was taken to Mercy Medical Center for minor injuries.

The deputy, Nicholas Hansen was not injured.
