Canines from all over descend on Roseburg
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- Dogs and their owners from all over the country invaded the fairgrounds for a four-day dog show that finished up Sunday. The Umpqua Kennel Club and the Rogue Valley Kennel Club of Grants Pass combined for the big show that was held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, under the American Kennel Club rules and regulations. The show featured hundreds of dogs of just about any breed you could think of. Monti Craig, the show chairperson, says it was a busy four days, with up to 1,000 dogs competing over the weekend. "We've had confirmation competition, obedience competition, rally. We have pretty close to most of the breeds, with the rare breed exception. We have some Canadian visitors, we have some California visitors, of course the bulk of entries comes from Oregon and Washington, but there are exhibitors from the midwest and east coast."
"Everything's gone great, this is our first year together and we're just thrilled to be here in Roseburg. The fairgrounds have been more than accommodating and fun to work with, so we hope we'll be here doing these shows for many years to come." There was a special building for grooming the dogs to get them ready for the show. Stations were set up in the exhibit building with the groomers, busy all day long, making sure they looked their best when they went into the competition. Many of the exhibitors brought several dogs with them, and Craig says they had some of the top dogs in the country that will compete in the big national shows in New York and other top shows. |

Craig says this was the first time the Rogue Valley Kennel Club combined with the Umpqua Kennel Club, and it worked out well for both of them.
