Tax day comes and goes

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Long lines showed up at times Monday, as property owners in Douglas County got their property taxes paid on the final day before you are considered late.

Monday was the last day to be able to pay your taxes in full and get the full discount.

Since the 15th fell on the weekend, taxpayers had an extra day to get the payment in and get the 3% discount.

If you paid 2/3 of the total by November 16, you got a 2% discount.

County taxpayers will find a large chunk of the tax goes to education and a very small amount goes to the county to help pay for the Sheriff's Office.

Even if you're late,  you can still pay in person at the tax collectors office in room 205 at the courthouse or at Umpqua Bank if you are in Reedsport.

There are also drop boxes to make your payments, one being in the courthouse just outside the tax office and another is in front of the courthouse at the base of the steps.
