ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A broken water main in a Hucrest neighborhood flooded some nearby residents Monday morning.

Around 10a.m., a water main broke at the intersection of Jefferson and Calkins, and water began to pour down the streets and into some houses.

City officials say it was a "full circle break" that occurred because of ground shifting, that put the pipe in a bind.

"You never know when they are going to break," said Tony Dietrich, superintendent for the City of Roseburg Water Department. "It's not age or anything like that makes them break, it's just the ground moving. So, you just kind of go with what you got and repair them as you go."

City crews were on scene and had the water shut off in about 20 minutes, and officials say it took a little over an hour to get full water service restored.

The force of the water was so strong, it caused the street to bubble up and crews had to take out that section of road and make repairs.

Some of the people who were flooded tell us they had serious damage to their homes.
