COQUILLE, Ore. -The investigation continues into an attempted murder/suicide that left one woman in extremely critical condition and her husband dead.

Ashley Kendall, 22, was shot in the back on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 17, in Coos Bay by her estranged Husband,Travis Kendall, 26, both out of Myrtle Point. Kendall then shot himself in the head after leading police on a chase back to his home.

Since there is no person to prosecute in this case, the Coos County District Attorney's office is working towards looking at the circumstances that led up to the shooting.

"One of the things we'll be able to do for Ashley's family is OK, this is what we know he did over the two or three days leading up to the incident Tuesday night," said District Attorney Paul Frasier.

Things that include borrowing a friends car to drive to Coos Bay.

"I think he borrowed the car primarily because he wanted to be in a car Ashley wouldn't recognize," said Frasier.

Fraiser said they're also investigating why Kendall, a convicted felon, was in the possession of a rifle, which Frasier says was a 30-06 caliber deer hunting rifle.

Body fluids were taken from Travis Kendall on Wednesday in order to do a toxicology test as part of the investigation into the police involved shooting by Coquille Police Chief, Mark Dannels.

According to Frasier, "Right now, based on everything I know, there is no question what Chief Dannels did on Tuesday night was an appropriate response."

Frasier said he anticipates the case will likely not be closed until sometime in January, when toxicology reports come in. Until then, everyone involved with the tragedy may be trying to answer one big question.

"Is there something we could have done before hand? " he said. "That's something that we're going to have to look at and see."
