SUTHERLIN, Ore. - An elderly Arizona man has been found dead east of Sutherlin.
Douglas County Sheriff’s officers in Roseburg said Saturday, they had located 72-year-old Frank Sjursen after he had been reported overdue on a trip from Arizona to Seattle. Authorities said Sjursen left his residence in Arizona last week, on the way to the Seattle area. He was stopped by an Oregon State Trooper just before 10:00 p.m. on November 25th, near milepost 137 just north of Sutherlin on Interstate-5. After Sjursen failed to arrive at his destination in Washington, an Attempt-to-Locate was broadcast to local law enforcement agencies in the Douglas County area. On the evening of Friday, November 27th, Sjursen’s family told the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office that his vehicle was equipped with a Vehicle Locate System. The system was activated and coordinates were provided to searchers.. Searchers went to the location about 15 miles east of Sutherlin and found his vehicle just after midnight on Saturday morning. It was found on a remote forest road in an area called Coon Creek/Harness Mountain. The car was locked and appeared to be stuck in the mud, but Sjursen was not found near the car.. Search and Rescue personnel combed the area, and just before noon Saturday, they found Sjursen dead, in a creek drainage a short distance from the car. Deputies say there were no signs of foul play. |
