ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Friday was the last day to turn in your old used tennis shoes for the Reuse-A-Shoe drive, that Congressman Peter DeFazio is competing in.

The Boys & Girls Club, along with several other local organizations have been collecting shoes for the past couple of weeks.

There were so many shoes donated that they ran out of boxes to store them in, but the final count for Douglas County was 692 pairs.

The competition takes place between different congressional districts in Oregon, and if Peter DeFazio wins, the Boys & Girls Club in Roseburg will receive a donation of equipment from Nike.

DeFazio's field representative, Chris Conroy said, "The Congressman thought that the Boys & Girls Club would be a good recipient because it serves the children and young adults in the county, so it would be put to good use."

DeFazio has won four out of the last five years, and gave the last donation of equipment to Glide High School.

There are still six other counties in the district that have to be tallied up, and the Boys & Girls Club is hoping DeFazio comes out on top again.
