Myrtle Creek celebrates Christmas with tree lighting
By Dan Bain KPIC NewsMYRTLE CREEK, Ore. -- The City of Myrtle Creek had it's annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on Saturday to kick off the holiday season in that community. People had to really bundle up to deal with the freezing temperatures, but the free hot chocolate and cookies helped them keep warm. After everyone got their treats and gathered around the tree, the mayor climbed up the latter to light it all up. Local residents formed a band and played Christmas songs for the event and City Manager Aaron Cubic says it was one of the best tree lighting ceremonies they've had. Santa even stopped by to talk with some of the good boys and girls while he handed out candy canes to the crowd. All of the lights are L.E.D. energy saving bulbs, and the ornaments on the tree were made by local elementary students. This weekend, they host the annual Timber Truckers Light Parade from Riddle to Myrtle Creek, with a celebration at Millsite Park for the community. |
