ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Plans were discussed at the courthouse Monday, for the welcoming home and demobilization of the National Guard's 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry from Roseburg.

Commissioner Joe Laurance and Major Darren Hoschouer, the Executive Officer for the 186th, met to discuss a plan of action to welcome home Charlie Company troops from Iraq.

"Those demobilization events will of course include our welcoming Charlie Company home, we're hoping in just the same way we sent them off, with everyone on every street corner all around the county," said Laurance.

The soldiers will demobilize in mid to late April at Fort Lewis, Washington.

Monday, plans were discussed on how the county will welcome them back into the community.

Three potential courses of action were discussed for the demobilization. A community demobilization with National Guard companies would likely occur locally at the county fairgrounds, or a regional demobilization with the full battalion, which would likely be held in Jackson County. If it's for the entire Oregon National Guard, the ceremony would be in Salem.

"In wars past, .perhaps we didn't have the time as a country to welcome them home. This time we do, and we're going to make certain that it's the greatest homecoming that anyone has ever seen," said Laurance.

Major Hoschouer explained that he would likely find out a general date towards the end of January, which will likely determine what type of demobilization event will occur.
