Man accused of gunning down ex-girlfriend undergoes mental examination
By KPIC NewsSOUTH BEND, Wash. - The man who owned one of the largest fishing boat companies in the region, and is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in broad daylight, has completed his mental evaluation leading up to trial. Psychologists will announce the results in January. Those results will determine whether Brian Brush is competent to stand trial for murder.
The 47-year-old Roseburg man is accused of killing his former girlfriend Lisa Bonney, a mother of two. Bonney was shot Sept. 11 in Long Beach, Wash. Police in Long Beach said they were patrolling the beach during a festival with dozens of people around, when they saw Brush fire shots from a shotgun into the tall grass. Long Beach police arrested Brush after they said they approached and he held up his hands. There, they found Bonney laying dead in the grass - shot in the back. Brush is well known to law enforcement. Since March, the Federal Bureau of Investigations has been investigating him for wire-transfer fraud involving his Roseburg business, North River Boats in the Green District. Now the fraud charge is secondary to first degree murder - as Bonney's family calls for justice. Brush is being held on $50 million bail. A competency hearing has been set for Jan. 12 in Pacific County Court in South Bend, Wash. |
