ROSEBURG, Ore.- A single vehicle crash north of Roseburg sent a pregnant woman to the hospital Sunday afternoon.

Douglas County Sheriff's deputies said Stephanie Rayhil of Roseburg was heading eastbound on Del Rio Road just before 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon when the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta she was driving drifted into the soft, steep shoulder.

Officers said the car traveled about 140 feet with the right wheels in the shoulder gravel.  Rayhil was not able to get the car back onto the pavement before it hit a berm and  went airborne another 40 feet, flipping over and hitting a large tree next to the North Umpqua River.

Rayhil, who is about 7 months pregnant, was transported to Mercy Medical Center with what officers said appeared to be minor injuries.

The car was demolished in the crash, with the front end completely gone, and the roof smashed in.

Deputies said the woman was extremely lucky to come out of the crash alive.  They are still investigating the cause of the crash.
