Police: Armed and dangerous man on the loose after 100 mph car chase
Clinton Stillwell By KPIC.com staffSUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A man wanted on warrants in Douglas and Coos counties is on the loose and considered armed and dangerous after a high-speed chase east of Sutherlin late Monday night that hit speeds as high as 100 mph. Sutherlin police consider Clinton Stillwell armed and dangerous. If you have any information you are encouraged to call their tip line at (541) 459-2251. The situation started around 10:30 p.m. Monday as police attempted to stop Stillwell for a possible traffic violation at Central Avenue and Grove Street in Sutherlin. Police had received a tip earlier on the wherabouts of Stillwell and Jeffery Powell of Oakland, who were both wanted on charges across several counties. Police tried to make a traffic stop but said Stillwell sped away, leading officers on a high speed chase that hit speeds up to 100 mph -- until the vehicle crashed into a fence. Law enforcement were able to apprehend two passengers after the crash, but Stilwell took off on foot, taunting officers to come after him. Officers ended the pursuit after locating a sawed-off shotgun in the vehicle along with ammunition for the shotgun and another firearm, which they believe Stillwell may still have with him. Police arrested Powell at the scene of the crash. Stillwell and Powell both face a handful of charges including attempting to elude police and unlawful posession of a firearm. Oregon State Police apprehended Heather Akins of Sutherlin at the scene. Akins, who is believed to be Stillwell's girlfriend, is expected to be charged with hindering prosecution. |
