Athlete of the Week: Landon Weimar
By Katie Boer KPIC SportsGLIDE, Ore. -- Junior Landon Weimar has some pretty lofty goals. Focusing on helping a group of his closest pals…? Check. "I really tried to capitalize myself on team play. That's a huge part of winning and getting better," said Weimar. And as a team….? "We've made it a goal of getting second place in league, which we accomplished". The next hurdle for the boys is their journey towards the state playoffs. So how does the A.S.B. Vice President balance basketball, football, and track, all while maintaining a 3.9 GPA?! "Organization," stated Weimar simply. "The key [is] just really looking at what time you have and then picking your priorities." Academically, his leadership role exemplifies exactly what striving for your passion is about. "Sports will take me so far," said the junior wing, referencing his hope to someday take his game to a collegiate level. "But things like academics will take me farther in life and I just keep it very... personal. I take it personally upon myself to do well." He said much like other kids his age; he plays for the love of the game, but mostly just because it's fun. "I've been playing with the kids on my team since sixth grade. Most of them are my best friends." However his fun doesn't come without intensity in the weight room and diligence on the hardwood. "For my final season, I'm probably looking at a lot of lifting and just conditioning over the summer," said Weimar. Staying in shape is an important factor as well, after overcoming numerous injuries in the past. "Win or lose it's about having fun." Course when the buzzer rings, it certainly doesn't hurt to have the friendships he's developed inside the key. |
