ELKTON, Ore. -- The badly decomposed body of a man found Feb. 5 along the Umpqua River has been identified, and now the medical examiner is asking for the public's help locating his family.

A landowner checking fences found the body near Elkton, Ore., on Feb. 5. The identify and gender of the deceased was not immediately known, but the body was found wearing several layers of sports-themed clothing.

Further investigation identified the body as that of a man. The Oregon State Police Crime Laboratory later identified the body as that of Salvador Quezada-Morales, born Oct. 22, 1952.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner determined Quezada-Morales died from hypothermia. Foul play is not suspected.

The medical examiner’s office has been attempting to locate a next of kin for Quezada-Morales. Investigators believe Quezada-Morales had a history

of homelessness in the Salem area, but no leads to locating family there have

been successful.

The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office hopes that through a public

announcement, a family member or friend of Quezada-Morales will contact

the Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

If you know Quezada-Morales or have any information about his family or

friends, please contact Chief Deputy Medical Examiner Jenni Gall at

(541) 440-4453.
