Zory Hill accepts Woman of the Year Award award at Myrtle Creek Citizen of the Year Awards

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. -  The Myrtle Creek-Tri City Area Chamber of Commerce has named its outstanding citizens for 2010 at the annual dinner Saturday night at the Myrtle Creek Elk's Lodge.

The man of the year was Dan Jacoy, a pastor at the Tri City Church of Christ for the last 21 years. Jacoy was described as  a father, businessman, guidance counselor, a teacher, practitioner and instructor in the art\ of physical well-being.

The woman of the year was Zory Hill, who is known for her involvement in collecting thousands of pounds of litter from the Myrtle Creek and Tri City area, and starting recycling programs at the area schools.

Several other awards were given out including the Legacy Circle Award, which is given to a member of the community who passed away during the last year. The award went to longtime Myrtle Creek Mayor Bob Cotterell.  His daughter Frances Young accepted the plaque for the family.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Blanche Newton, who has been involved in the community throughout her life and remains involved in community affairs  sharing time, services, expertise and knowledge.

The Business of the Year was Frontier Communications which has been in the Myrtle Creek area for about 60 years, and donates equipment and other supplies to different projects.  The company also put up signs around the community, and is a major sponsor for Music in the Park.

The Outstanding Service Award was given to Linda Johnson the outgoing president of the chamber, for donating hundreds of hours and personal funds in service to the community.

The Special Recognition Award went to the group Seniors Escorting Seniors, a non-profit corporation that provides transportation to dining sites, shopping, doctor's appointments and other needed transportation for seniors.

About 190 people attended the sold out event at the Elk's Lodge Saturday night.
