Douglas County unemployment rate drops in January
By KPIC-TV StaffROSEBURG, Ore. - The Douglas County unemployment rate dropped in January, but the number of unemployed persons rose, and that may be because some people have given up looking for a job, and others may have left the county. Oregon State economists, who just this week, released the January employment figures, said the county's jobless rate fell more than 1% in January, from 14.7%, down to 13.6%. That was a drop in the January figures from the previous year by almost a half-percent. The county is almost 3% above the state rate at 10.7%. The number of unemployed workers in the county actually rose by 596 to 7,367. Figures show state government gained 10 jobs, but retail trade dropped 150. Construction and Leisure & Hospitality both dropped 110 jobs in January Douglas County remains the 3rd highest seasonally adjusted county unemployment rate in the state, behind Crook County at 15.9% and Harney County at 14.7%. |
