ROSEBURG, Ore. - The Roseburg Swim Team needs more swimmers for the program, and they are taking advantage of two of their high profile swimmers, to try to recruit new members into the club.

Kaylin and John Bing, who are twins, and very successful swimmers at Roseburg High School have been swimming in the Roseburg club since a very young age and Kaylin has become a potential Olympic swimmer.

Last week, the two took their message to young students in the elementary and middle schools in the area, to try to spark some interest in swimming.

The two visited Umpqua Valley Christian School in Green last week, talking to each of the classrooms from first  through the sixth grade.  Kaylin got to show off some of the top medals she has won in competing on the swim team in state and national competition.

"Swimming is just a really good all-around experience," said Kaylin.  "Kids have a lot of fun with it and its another activity they can do and enjoy with their friends."

"Our family has adopted the sport," Jon Bing.  "It's something we can talk about, it keeps us active. Some people actually know us as the swimming family, so it's exciting "

The Roseburg Swim Team has dropped to about half the membership it once had, and they are trying to build it up again.

Assistant coach Jacob Swinn said they really need to get the numbers up again, or they will be facing a tough financial road.

"We just need some more kids to come out, I mean little kids especially," said Swinn. "It's a chance for the kids to exercise, meet some new friends, just have a good time. It's always been a big program around Roseburg and we're looking to keep it that way."

The team works out at the YMCA pool in Roseburg, and for the Novice division, it;'s just one day a week. They are hoping hey can increase their membership, while generating some possible Olympic candidates for the future.

Kaylin Bing who won a pair of events in the OSAA 6-A State Championships this winter,  is headed for Spain later this year. She will be competing in some international competition, as she continues to get ready for the Olympic tryouts.
