The Roseburg railroad switching yard is moving to Winchester

A new switching yard is under construction in Winchester to replace the one in the downtown Roseburg area, and hopefully that will alleviate a lot of the congestion when trains stop to switch tracks.

A lot of dirt is being moved around and the base of the new yard is being constructed just north of the Douglas County Lumber Mill. The location will help make the railroad much more efficient and could do away with a lot of the traffic tie-ups in the downtown Roseburg area.

The trains will still be going through Roseburg but the switching part won't be handled there.

Trains have had some mishaps there in the past, and when they do, it usually blocks most of the crossings in the downtown area.
