ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Time is running out if you want to donate to this year's Toys for Tots.
Every year, Roseburg Fire Department officials gather toys and monetary donations to help make sure every kid has something to open this Christmas.
Lt. Ryan Travis, the Toys for Tots coordinator, says a lot of kids are in need this year. "Every kid deserves to have a good Christmas, and our community, you know, with the mills closing down and the economy being the way it is, a lot of kids are going without toys," he said. "They kind of look to our program as the only way they're going to receive those toys."
The big toy give-away is this Saturday at Hucrest Elementary School in Roseburg from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but Travis says they haven't met their goals yet.
They have plenty of donated toys, but they're still several thousand dollars shy of their goal of raising $10,000.
If you'd like to help donate, you can stop by any Roseburg Fire Department.
If parents would like to participate in Toys for Tots, they need to bring their ID, the child's social security card and a large bag to carry toys in.
