ROSEBURG, Ore. -- How low will it go?

According to a Special Weather Statement issued by the NOAA: Really cold.

Temperatures are forecast to plummet, with lows in the Umpqua Valley and along the South Coast in the teens - or even lower - possible later this week.

"There is still uncertainty on how cold it will get, but inland valleys are likely to experience nighttime temperatures as low as 10 degrees later in the week," National Weather Service forecasters said.

The cold air starts to arrive Tuesday. Temperatures will likely plunge Wednesday through Friday.

The wind chill will likely make temperatures feel even colder, forecasters said.

And while moisture isn't in the immediate forecast, a system forecast to arrive Saturday could bring snow, sleet or freezing rain to parts of Oregon.

"Confidence is low on the specifics at this time," forecasters said. "Stay tuned to the latest forecasts."

In December, a blast of cold air delivered record-cold temperatures and snow that stuck around for a week, closing schools and disrupting commerce.
