Autopsy: Victim beat to death; DA: Suspect faces manslaughter

BANDON, Ore. - A man beat another man to death last week and faces manslaughter charges in the killing, the Coos County prosecutor said.

William Matthew Drews died Thursday, October 3, after a fight in Bandon.

An autopsy revealed that Drews died of blunt force trauma to his head and neck.
The autopsy found no evidence Drews was beat with a weapon, meaning the injuries came in the fight with another person.

Authorities sought Coy Daniel Smith, 40, for questioning about the fight.

Law enforcement took Smith into custody on Sunday. Smith faces a charge of manslaughter in the death of Drews, District Attorney Paul Frasier said.
