CB key after crash traps man in truck far from cell phone service
Damage to the truck trapped the driver inside, with the truck in a creek 25 feet down a cliff from the road above.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Justin Cady's truck slid off a snow and ice-covered road along Little Fall Creek and crashed down a 25-foot cliff Tuesday afternoon.

The truck came to rest in the creek. Damage to the truck trapped the 39-year-old Eugene man in the cab, well out of cell phone range.

For the next half hour, Cady used his CB radio to call for help.

He finally got an answer Arthur Esgate of Springfield, who happened to be in the area in a truck with a CB.

Cady was able to talk Esgate to his location by CB, and the two were able to talk in person before Esgate drove off to get help.

Esgate got cell phone service after about 3 miles.

Medics responded to the scene and got Cady out of the truck. He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, where he was treated and released.
