ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A temporary ban on medical marijuana dispensaries will now be in effect for Douglas County.

At their meeting Wednesday morning, Douglas County commissioners held a first and second reading on a one year moratorium for medical marijuana facilities in the county.

They admitted it was a difficult decision, but unanimously voted in favor of the year-long ban.

"After taking in a significant amount of testimony and information from the citizens, (commissioners) deliberated to put in a one year moratorium on the establishment of the dispensaries," said commissioner Susan Morgan.

The ban begins for the county this May and will last up to a year, unless the time is shortened by officials.
