Truck crash blocks I-5 with scrap metal

ALBANY, Ore. - A truck hauling scrap metal overturned on Interstate 5 north of Albany, blocking both northbound lanes for 2 hours Tuesday.

The driver, Douglas West, 43, of Vancouver, Wash., was not injured. Oregon State Police cited him for careless driving.

According to state police, West was driving onto I-5 north from Century Drive NE when the truck went over on its side, spilling part of the load.

The crash blocked both northbound lanes.

The Oregon Department of Transportation coordianted cleanup and got I-5 open again by 1:30 p.m. Travelers were detoured around the wreck during the closure.
