School bus collides with car

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A two-vehicle crash had traffic snarled for a couple of hours in north Roseburg Wednesday afternoon, after a school bus and passenger car collided.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene of the wreck just after 1:30 pm, which was at the intersection of NE Stephens and Newton Creek Road.
Authorities say Beverly Beatrice Reynaga, 57, of Roseburg, was heading north in the right hand lane, when she slowed down and stopped for a pedestrian.
That's when officials say she was rear ended by a school bus driven by Lawrence Gene Georges, 61, also of Roseburg.
Beverly and her two minor passengers were transported to Mercy by ambulance for treatment of injuries, none of which were life threatening.
Crews had to cut open the rear portion of the vehicle to get one of the victims out of the car.
There were 37 Jo Lane students on the bus, and they were all either picked up by parents or loaded on another bus to be taken home.
Students on the bus told KPIC News that it was a scary ordeal. "All of a sudden me and my friend Victor were talking, and then we came to a complete stop," said Long Miele. "We hit the front of the seat, because we sit right here and this is the front of the other seat. We just smacked right on it."
Georges was cited for Following Too Closely.

Thank you lord for watching over the people I love today. All 3 in the car are ok. Alex dont remember any of it though. He was in the back seat and the back of the car is crushed!!!!!

justin N Ashley i was there when it happen as a matter of the white car damn near it me ..i was the one driving an electric wheel chair and was crossing jsut as the bus slammed into the car!
Sad Stuff I was in the opposite side and watched this it was sad they used the jaws of life to get a young man outta the back seat !! he had to be following way to close I would sue the crap outta that driver they need to be alert when transporting kids...Â

My mom and nephews were in the car. They are ok thank God.
And yet the lawmakers claim the seat belt law is for our "safety"--if it were truly for our safety, people (including children) would not be allowed to STAND in public buses and EVERY school bus would have belts not JUST the Head Start buses. If a Head Start student is old enough to open their own quick-release lap belt, then certainly K-12 would be assumed to be able to handle it.
yet another reason why our kids should have to have seat belts when riding on a bus!!! It is ridiculous that they can ride on a bus with out them but in every other vehicle it is required. Buckle up for safety....right?? well then why is this not an option?
I heard from someone that was driving as it happened that the bus rear ended the car. If that turns out to be true I won't surprised. I've seen these bus drivers constantly go through red lights and floor it through rail road tracks as the gates are coming down. Its a wonder why they have to hire new ones every year

everone is ok that was on that bus but one girl one of the copes said. And the car the drive was ok but they took a boy about 15 or so to m.m.c they had to cut him out of the car. Was just they and seen it

Brooke it was bus 40. Yes it is a Winchester bus. My kids ride that bus. According to police there were no injuries as far as the children on the bus. I hope the driver of the car is ok. I'm trying to get a hold of the school
I'm waiting on 3 kids from Winchester and I went down just to make sure they weren't on it. I hope nobody is hurt.
