DeFazio speaks to local Rotary group
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Oregon congressman Peter DeFazio was in town on Thursday.
He dropped by to speak with the Roseburg Rotary Club at Kowloon's Restaurant over the lunch hour.
The congressman answered questions about financial crisis, timber harvesting and the exportation of natural gas.
DeFazio just introduced a bill to congress that aims to prevent an increase in the cost of natural gas.
One Rotary Club member questioned the congressman on why, when we have, "natural gas coming out of our ears."
"Well, that's good, if the price is down," DeFazio replied. "You know what, it might bring some manufacturing jobs home if we have really cheap natural gas, because we'll have an advantage over other countries. If we start exporting cheap natural gas, then we're not going to have that."
DeFazio is up for re-election this November. He has served Oregon's 4th district since 1987.
