Deputies capture woman who vanished in river

MAPLETON, Ore. - A woman who jumped into a river to escape from sheriff's deputies March 21 was captured April 1, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.

Tasha Marie "Jessie" Gustina, 31, was last seen when she plunged into the Siuslaw River near Stagecoach Road after attempting to elude law enforcement. Marine patrol deputies searched the river, to no avail.

A citizen tip led deputies to Gustina on Monday. She tried to flee, the sheriff's office said, but deputies and a K-9 unit took her into custody.

Gustina was booked at the Lane County Jail on charges of  Elude by Vehicle x 3, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Methamphetamine x 2, Possession of a Controlled Substance Schedule 1 x 2, DUII x 2, Reckless Driving and Driving While Suspended Misdemeanor.
