Driver in fatal crash to return to court in November

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The driver in last month's fatal crash involving a pedestrian was in court Friday morning, and is scheduled to return for a status check on November 4.

Shaun Everett Lowry, 32, was charged with first degree manslaughter and DUII among several other charges, when police say he struck and killed a pedestrian walking on Lookingglass Road in August.

Lowry's defense attorney told the court that they had not received all of the evidence in the case yet from the prosecution.

Lowry did not speak at the hearing.

Police say the crash happened around 10:45 p.m. on August 13, as Lowry drove southbound on Lookingglass Road.

The car hit two pedestrians who were walking southbound on the road.

One of the pedestrians, Amanda S. Bell, 24, of Myrtle Creek died from her injuries at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.

Shawnacy E. Hyatt, 37, of Roseburg was taken by air ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University, but has since been released. Police say he is recovering.
