COQUILLE, Ore. - Two drivers got hurt but survived a head-on crash on Highway 42 just after noon Thursday.
According to state police, Sherry D. Underwood, 51, of Coquille was eastbound on Hwy 42 when her 2009 Ford Focus crossed the centerline in a curve. The Ford collided nearly head-on with a 2000 VW Jetta driven by Karissa N. Kirkpatrick, 16, of Myrtle Point.
The crash trapped Kirkpatrick in the wreckage of her car. Firefighters from Bridge and Myrtle Point got her out of the wreckage.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Coquille Valley Hospital. Airbags deployed in both vehicles, and safety restraints were in use, police said.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are handling the investigation.
