Expect closures on Harvard Ave. next week
Summer road construction can cause headaches if you don't know before you go.

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Oregon Department of Transportation says motorisits can expect some nighttime closures in the Harvard and I-5 area next Monday and Tuesday nights.

Crews will be repaving a half mile stretch of Harvard Ave. from Bellows St. to Madrone Ave.

Construction is scheduled to take place mostly between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and will start Thursday.

This is what ODOT says this is what motorists need to know:

  • Paving: Expect intermittent nighttime lane closures and brief delays on Harvard Ave. from Thursday, August 23 until mid-September.
  • Ramp closures: On Monday and Tuesday nights, August 27-28, the contractor is scheduled to grind and pave in front of the Exit 124 on- and off-ramps. The ramps may be closed several hours each night. Motorists traveling to and from I-5 are advised to use Exit 125 (Garden Valley).
  • Striping: Watch for intermittent nighttime lane closures the week of Sept. 4-7 due to striping operations.
  • Traffic signals: Starting August 27, the traffic signals in the project area will be set to timers for three weeks. The paving process requires the temporary removal of the in-road sensors. Some drivers may notice the signals operating more slowly than usual.

ODOT would like to remind motorists to avoid the area is at all possible during construction, and as always, be aware of workers in the roadway.
