ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A firefighter was injured as fire crews worked to put out a fire at a furniture store Sunday afternoon off of NE Stephens St, officials said.

The fire started at around 5 p.m. Sunday in Kuebler's Furniture Store.

Police closed down part of NE Stephens Street near Garden Valley Blvd. while fire crews handle the blaze.

Numerous neighbors and business owners called 911 after noticing smoke coming from Kuebler’s Furniture.

Roseburg Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to the fire, and when they arrived, crews say they found heavy grey smoke coming from the southeast corner of the building off N.E. Chestnut Avenue.

It was reported that an employee was still in the building so firefighters forced entry to begin rescue operations.

Fire crews found nobody inside.

After firefighters tried to fight the fire inside, officials say they were unable to get it under control and had to back out.

Fire crews used several fire engines and a ladder truck. While the fire was blazing in the building, N.E. Stephens was closed and traffic was detoured.

The structure, which the Roseburg Fire Department say is valued over $500,000, appears to have substantial loss.
