CANYONVILLE, Ore. - Multiple fire departments responded to a grass fire Friday afternoon in the Gazley Creek area northwest of Canyonville.

The fire had burned about an acre when crews arrived but moved quickly uphill.

The flames slowed down when it reached a shaded timber area.

The fire burned about 3 1/2 acres.
Douglas Forest Protective Association has not yet declared fire season in Douglas County.

That could soon change.

"Fire season in Douglas County probably isn't too far away," said Kyle Reed with DFPA. "We're looking at the weather forecast and our fuels conditions and the number of fires we have and how those fires are burning, and we'll make the call at that point when it's appropriate. At this point though we're probably still a couple of days out."

The cause of Friday's fire remains under investigation.
