ROSEBURG, Ore. - A fire blamed on smoking in bed caused minor injuries to one person, did $10,000 in damage to a home and put up a column of smoke visible from a mile away, the fire department said.

The homeowner awoke early Monday to a fire burning on his bedroom floor, firefighters said.

Crews could see the smoke a mile from the Katrina Court home, and the house was fulled of smoke when firefighters arrived.

The investigation determined the fire was most likely caused by the homeowner smoking in bed, the fire department said.
