Glide residents re-thinking home security after incident
GLIDE, Ore. -- Two men are in jail after leading police on a hunt through Glide yesterday.
At around 2:45 p.m. Monday, Charles Endicott, 31, Russell Fennell, 28, both of Glide, allegedly entered an apartment on Lee Lane.
Police say the two were armed with a knife, and supposedly handcuffed and beat the male occupant.
The victim's wife was able to escape and get help from a passing vehicle.
Police say Endicott and Fennell then ran into the wooded area behind the apartment complex, sparking a search that involved OSP troopers, Sheriff's Deputies and the Roseburg Canine unit.
The suspects were known to the victim.
"It looks like the motivation for the attack was prescription medication theft," said Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Dwes Hutson. "These two guys were attempting to steal some prescription meds from the victim."
Endicott was taken into custody about two hours later at the Mt Scott Trailer Park, and Fennell turned himself in just before 8:00 p.m. Monday.
Neighbors say they were surprised to find that happened in such a quiet neighborhood. "I know my wife was really upset, because she came home and locked all the doors and everything," said Donald Scott.
He says he and his wife have never really worried about home security before. "No, we really don't, but I suppose we will from now on," Scott said. "So, it kind of changes your feeling I think, of what could go on down there."
