Hot air balloon lands safely near Ore. highway intersection

MILWAUKIE, Ore. - Ten people were taken on a wild hot air balloon ride Saturday morning when wind conditions forced them to land next to I-205 near Milwaukie.

The group started the trip from Aurora, hoping to land the balloon near Canby. Wind conditions stopped them from landing at two sites north of Canby. The pilot controlled the balloon's descent, eventually landing in a grassy area near Interstate 205, where 82nd Drive meets Highway 224 at around 8 in the morning.

After receiving unconfirmed reports via 9-1-1 that a balloon was flying low over the Willamette River, Oregon State Police and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to a report that a hot air balloon landed near Interstate 205.

When they arrived, the inflated balloon and its ten passengers were safely on the ground. After a half-hour of deflating the balloon, a support vehicle helped retrieve it from the landing site.
